Since 1 April 2021, Van der Valk Hotel Gent - Belgium has opened its doors. For our team we are still looking for a motivated breakfast cook!

As a breakfast cook you will work together with the team on an optimal guest experience at the largest hospitality family business in the Netherlands. A great way to develop yourself in a company that everyone knows! The hotel is located 10 minutes from the city centre and has a view of the Ghelamco Arena. In total the hotel consists of 10 floors with 263 rooms, a skybar, a brasserie, an á la carte restaurant and 12 banqueting halls/meeting rooms and a wellness.

Are you passionate about cooking and do you enjoy working in an open kitchen? Can you surprise guests with a delicious breakfast that you prepare on the spot? Then we are looking for you! As a breakfast cook you will work in a dynamic environment where guest experience is central. Through your hospitable commitment you, together with your breakfast colleagues, offer our guests a surprising start of the day.

The position

• You take care of and/or control the mise-en-place of the life-cooking buffet;
• You are in direct contact with the guests during the buffet;
• You take care of the various breakfast/lunch dishes from our menu;
• You are responsible for the quality of the dishes you prepare;
• You oversee the appearance of the products for both breakfast and lunch.
•  You keep the refrigerator, the freezer, the working tools and the workshop clean and tidy;
• You respect safety norms during the work and you signal malfunctions/defects;
• You check the quality and freshness of the products and ensure hygienic storage and preservation of foodstuffs;

 This list of tasks is not exhaustive; depending on the circumstances, you may always be asked to carry out additional tasks.

Who are you?

You are full of energy and enjoy working with the team to ensure a smooth-running kitchen. You are friendly to your guests and colleagues. For you, hospitality means going the extra mile to make sure our guests leave the hotel with a smile. And:

• You have at least 1 year of experience in a similar position;
• You are flexible and an early bird (also in the weekends);
• You have affinity with the hotel industry;
• You are stress resistant and can set priorities;
• You can work well in a team;
• You are representative and hospitable;
• You speak fluent English or Dutch;
